Ohio ISSUE 1 requires any future constitutional amendment to be approved by at least 60% of citizen votes. Currently, special interests can hijack Ohio's Constitution with a well funded campaign and only a 50% plus 1 vote. Our Ohio Constitution should require more than a simple majority to ensure the issues are widely popular, highly vetted and clearly in the best interest of the vast majority of Ohioans.
Issue 1 eliminates the 10-day cure period to gather additional signatures for an initiative petition proposing a constitutional amendment.
Issue 1 requires any initiative petition proposing a constitutional amendment to be signed by at least 5% of the electors of each county in the state instead of the current requirement of only half of the state counties.
